Thunder is no longer competing in hunt tests or running a lot of training set-ups, but that doesn’t mean that he can just sit around. Hunting season is almost here. He is going to need to be in condition for that. Grouse starts next month and waterfowl in October. It is his favorite time of year and he would not want to miss out.
We are also thinking of entering him in an upcoming show in the Veteran Sweepstakes and the Veteran Class. Veteran Sweeps and Veteran Classes are for older dogs and are broken down as follows:
- dogs and bitches 8 years and under 10 years and
- dogs and bitches 10 years and over.
Veteran Sweeps and Classes are not offered at every show, just selected shows as clubs choose.
At 8 years old, Thunder would be one of the younger entries so we would like to show him in as fit condition as possible.
At our retriever club’s training day a couple of weeks ago, Thunder got a chance to run a few marks. He ran from the top of the hill to retrieve a mark in the water. Hills are great for strengthening legs. If you can pair that with some swimming, all the better.
Thunder didn’t care about any of that. He just had fun!
Storm has a test tomorrow. Hope she can keep that fanny to the ground. 🙂
Have a wonderful weekend!
Thanks so much to SlimDoggy, MyGBGV Life, and To Dog with Love for K-9 Kamp and for the FitDog Friday Blog Hop!
He will rock the show he is so handsome! Great staying fit photos and exercise. Good luck to storm. Gman and glory are at it again too.
Good luck, Storm! And I bet Thunder will be one of the most fit entries there!
Thunder is such a strong healthy guy – he’s master that Veteran Class. He looks so happy running his marks – in his element. Good luck with the tests…Go Storm! Thanks for joining the Hop.
Go Thunder go and good luck to Storm this weekend!
We love seeing Thunder and what a great advert for us seniors. Hope it al goes well. Have a fabulous Friday.
Best wishes Molly
What great pictures! I love that Thunder still gets to enjoy so much fun fitness. Good luck to Storm!
Well that looks like a lot of fun!
Happy Friday. WooThunder! And not that you need it but good luck this weekend Storm!
Thunder is so cute! I love the way his ears “fly” in the photos where he’s running! He looks like he’s really enjoying himself. 😀
Our friends made a similar choice for their Golden — Having fun is really what it’s all about!! Enjoy your weekend!
It’s been a long time since I’ve had a chance to stop by. Is Thunder no longer running tests because of his age? Looks like he had fun at the club’s training day.
Yes partly. We decided we did not want to train him as hard as required through the summer heat. He still trains, but really just to stay in shape for hunting season.
Hi Y’all!
Wow! Thunder, you look fantastic in full out action! Good luck to you Storm!
Y’all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
Thunder looks fabulous. The Veterans class would be fun to do. I got the chance to show one of my friend’s Havanese in veterans at the Havanese National Specialty. It’s a very sweet victory to win that class 🙂
Looks like you had a terrific day, fun all the way. Good luck in your shows Thunder!
He looks like he is having such a great time!
Good luck to both dogs!
Good luck to both dogs, we’re sure they’ll do well! Thunder definitely had a good time – wish human workouts could be such fun!
Thunder is gorgeous! Love the pictures and good luck to both him and Storm!
Been thinking of getting to run up and down slopes so good to read it improves their leg strength XD
I’m sure he will make every show to a big event. I wish I could watch him once there.
What a great workout….and even better that he doesn’t even think it’s “work”!
Such a wonderful capture!
It sure does look like Thunder had a great time. If he can’t always compete, at least he can still have fun. 🙂
i think BECAUSE of all the training you’ve done with your dogs, Thunder would be bored to pieces if he wasn’t kept active. Besides being a great way to keep him in shape. 🙂
I’m looking forward to some brown dawgs hunting photos. Our grouse season opens Aug. 30 and partridge season the middle of September, looking forward to it.
