It is the time of year when nature gets ready for winter.
The trees get ready by shedding their leaves. But before they do they put on a pretty display.
I took these pictures near our cabin a couple of weeks ago. Sadly the pretty leaves are all gone now and we won’t see leaves on the trees again until next June.
The finches are getting ready for winter by swarming the bird feeder. They have been scarce the last several weeks preferring to find food off in the forest, but they are back now and hungry.
This Dark-Eyed Junco was checking out whatever was on the ground.
These birds are in the sparrow family and quite common, but we don’t normally see them at our feeder.
Even the squirrels are getting ready for winter by gathering and storing food.
Storm wasn’t too happy to find a squirrel had stacked about 50 pine cones in the corner of her dog house!
Speaking of getting ready. Hope you are getting ready for our Halloween Hop and Howling Good Giveaway tomorrow. Stop back tomorrow for details!
Here the acorns are falling fast and furiously. There are some parts of the road where it looks like a carpet!
The give away is super cool, I can hardly wait!
So sad to see Fall go…it is the prettiest time of year, we think.
LOL Storm and the pine cones made me laugh. Molly would so love to sort it out. Lovely Fall pix and yes we are ready for Friday and Saturday when we have folk over. Have a wonderful Wednesday.
Best wishes Molly
The changes of the seasons are really amazing, aren’t they? Poor Storm! Those pesky squirrels are always trying to get squatters’ rights around here, too. 🙂
Storm, I hate cleaning up after squirrels, too!
I love the changing seasons, but still can’t get excited about the fact that winter is coming. They are saying plunging temperatures and possibly snow flurries this weekend, so it’s definitely coming!
We might get some flurries too!
That squirrel had a lot of nerve, first for using the dog house without permission and second being a squirrel in a dog house!
We could not figure out where Storm was getting all the pine cones in her kennel….lol.
Very pretty photos, great bird shots. Storm you go get those squirrels.
Those trees are gorgeous. We have not seen many colors nor not too many leaves have fallen yet. But there are so many acorns this year we could feed most of the states squirrels for the winter. They fall on the awnings and car port and sound like guns going off. Poor Storm…shame on those squirrels for putting all those pine cones in your house. They would not be comfortable to take a nap on for sure. Fantastic pictures! Hugs and nose kisses
Such pretty pics! Too bad fall can’t last longer!
We’ve got some leaves still hanging on in the trees, but a lot of leaves are on the ground. Miss Elka is constantly distracted by the noise they make!
Hi Y’all!
So sorry you have to share your house Storm.
Y’all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
It looks much more like fall where you are then here. Some of the trees are turning but it doesn’t look like fall quite yet.
Our mountains are starting to turn white, and even though the temperatures were in the 70s today, snow is predicted for Sunday.
