At our house the outside kennel is a prized spot. The dogs love it because they can move around and watch the birds and squirrels. In the winter when it is more difficult to exercise the dogs, time outside helps them burn off extra energy. Unfortunately, we only have two spots outside so one dog loses out.
When he is outside, Freighter uses the kennel Thunder has always used, including the dog house that has always belonged to Thunder.
I guess Freighter feels the need to make it his own because he has done some chewing renovations on the house. A house Thunder never ever chewed renovated.
Maybe Freighter learned his chewing renovation skills from Storm?
Storm still chews renovates her house and she is 7 1/2. She is secret about it and chews renovates the inside of her house instead of the outside.
Here is a sample of her chewing renovations. Look closely at the beams, top and sides.
Because of his need to chew renovate, Freighter has had very limited outside time. He turned 3 at the end of November so we decided to try him in the kennel again. As I said it is a good way to burn off extra energy. Also, we would like to get a bit more coat on him for the dog show season and time outside will help that along.
So far any chewing renovating has been minimal.
This is the Thursday Bark And Bytes Blog Hop hosted by 2 Brown Dawgs and Heart Like A Dog.
Next week our Barks and Bytes hop falls on Christmas Day. Jodi and I realize people are busy with family and traditions, so we invite you to add a holiday wish, tradition, memory or greeting and link it up to the special Christmas edition of Barks and Bytes. We’ve made a button especially for this occasion. Of course, if you have a traditional blog post, feel free to add that as well.
We love a bit of fuzzy renovation at our home too!
Hi Y’all!
Hmmm…I don’t have a place outside…the most renovation I’ve done is throw the black Kong against the white walls and put black steaks on the wall. I did try to redesign the black Kong and enlarge the opening. I haven’t seen that black Kong in years. Wonder why?
Y’all come on by,
Hawk aka BrownDog
We wouldn’t like an outside kennel, but Bailie says renovating looks like fun and if he had such a house, she would gladly do some renovating herself. Hopefully, being an adulty three, he will leave things as is.
wow Freighter we would need a helper for our diy-projects :o)
I guess Freighter is either maturing, or has decided he doesn’t like the taste of wood…
LOL we agree maybe the taste of wood is for the young ones. Have a tremendous Thursday.
Best wishes Molly
Great digs! You won’t put two dogs in one kennel? I will just so they have someone to hang out with.
We thought about making the kennels for two dogs when we had them built but decided against that. The dog house is not really large enough for two and I think they like their space. 🙂 I think once the tree comes down we will try Thunder out in the family room rather than his crate, provided he doesn’t get into trouble. 🙂
At least your dogs renovate their own stuff…Daisy “renovated” our oak coffee table when she was a puppy. Not some of her best work! I love the special Christmas Barks and Bytes logo! Hope you all have very happy holidays!
Hmmm, speaking of “renovating…..” This reminds me of when my golden retriever, Savanna, was a youngster and decided that she liked the taste of sheetrock and literally ate a huge hole into the corner of my living room wall! I’m glad to say she does not “renovate” like that anymore. Have a wonderful holiday!
Oh my gosh, I guess I should not complain!
Renovations are always exciting! Thanks for hosting! *wags*
Oh no!!! That’s a lot of renovating!!! Silly pups!
I’m glad Donna doesn’t have a need to renovate. I’m currently petsitting a toy poodle puppy, and he seems pretty happy with just a nylabone to chew on. Phew! Happy holidays!
When Sampson was still a very small guy he renovated the footrest on our breakfast bar. I was terrified to tell Hubby what he had done. Luckily for Sampson he was an incredibly adorable puppy and (much like Mary Poppins) practically perfect in every other way. When I told Hubby what he had done, he just laughed and said he didn’t like that footrest anyway. 🙂
When we first moved into our current house I caught Delilah trying to renovate some woodwork. Luckily for her that stopped pretty quickly. 🙂
Oh boy those sure are some personalized renovations for sure lol. I remember growing up we had a lab mix that decided to renovate a door one time; he managed to chew through it. My parents weren’t very happy with his decor choice.
Luke liked to do those types of renovations when he was confined to our mud room as a puppy (he did some furniture remodeling as well). Every time we have a puppy we have to have the woodwork in that room repaired! We haven’t bothered yet this time, since he worked more on the furniture than the walls.
I think it’s great to have a space where dogs can get outside in the winter to just get some fresh air and look around. Our yard is fenced in and Sheba loves to just go out there and lie around, no matter how cold it is.
Good thing you’re using a renewable resource! From experience, stay with wood and don’t go with vinyl.
You are right. I think a little more remodeling has been happening in the last few days. 🙂
