On Wednesdays I like to post photos of the dogs as a nice mid-week break.

I have a ton of training photos that I have not have an opportunity to share and here summer training season is almost over.  In a month hunting season will start.

I thought on Wednesdays going forward I would share some of these photos along with any tips I might have for getting the shot.  (Remember I am no expert and always learning.)

It can be tough to get photos of the dogs working in heavy cover.  So often you get more blur than dog.  I have found that using the AI Servo focus setting on my Canon 60D allows me to look through the cover and focus on the parts of the dog that I like to capture.

This picture is from back in June when the grass was higher than the dog, but I managed to capture Freighter’s eyes without a ton of blur.

  1. that’s a super photo, I love it. And I’m so happy that you wrote about special things you can do with your canon. I never used this feature, now I know for what photos I can use it and will try it too. Many Many thanks for sharing some tips&tricks :o)

  2. Mom says photography is love hate as she can’t stop and so enjoys it, but it can be so frustrating as well! Good shots in the tall stuff.

  3. What a terrific shot of Freighter! Love how his eyes are in focus above the grass!

  4. Hi Y’all!

Yep, my Human often gets more grass or reeds in focus than ME! Sometimes she does it on purpose ’cause she likes the effect! Can you imagine? Wanting cattails instead of my beautiful tail?

    Y’all come on by,
