Storm has always considered herself the constable of the neighborhood. She seems to have a photographic memory of where people in the neighborhood normally keep their stuff and if she sees anything out-of-place she sounds the alarm. Bike left in the middle of the lawn. Sound the alarm. Ball left on the sidewalk. Sound the alarm. Bikes and balls in the garage. Nothing to see here and no alarm needed.
The other day I let her out and almost immediately she spied something out-of-place in the neighbor’s yard.
It is just an empty flowerpot that must have been blown there by the wind Storm.
Storm then proceeded to let everyone know something was out-of-place.
I am sure the neighbors appreciated that Storm!
You may notice in the photos that Storm is right on the edge of our yard. I mean right on the edge. I know some are skeptical and do not believe that an invisible fence will contain their dogs. These photos are a good illustration that with the right training, invisible fence does work.
We have always made sure that our dogs have a visual marker for the edge of the yard. The collars chime when the dog enters the fence’s field, but on occasion the dogs go out without a collar. Even if they are not wearing a collar, we still need them to respect the fence.
On this particular day, I had Storm out without her collar because I was watching her. As much as she wanted to investigate the intruder, she did not break the boundary. Good girl.
Anyone else have a constable of the neighborhood living in their house?

That’s awsome that it even worked without the collar, dogs are supersmart, I guessed it :o) Easy is a control freak, an ole coke can on the street, an empty plastic cup or even a feather and he is on alert.
Good girl, Storm. 🙂
Clever girl! 🙂
We aren’t quite a particular about things lying around, but we are not happy about strange people being around and we let them know with some good howls!
So cute! Mine will often do the same thing, but unfortunately it is usually with noises, in the middle of the night. Gah. I’m sure my neighbors don’t appreciate the barking at a fly’s fart 2 miles down the road, lol!
Hi Y’all!
Guess I get it from my Human. She pays no attention to what the neighbors are doing, or even if they’re outside in their yard…If something is out of place in my own yard, however, I’ll issue a low growl and go to investigate unless the Human tells me to sit and wait. If it’s in somebody else’s yard, then it’s their problem.
Y’all come on by,
Hawk aka BrownDog
Storm and Teutul must be related. He is sure to let everyone know if there is ANYTHING out of place… 🙂
That is too funny Storm, good girl. Nellie is our alert-er at our house.
Oh Storm, how I love that girl. Both of my dogs notice when things are out of place too. My favorite was the sprinkler. The first time Delilah was intrigued by it, but she quickly learned to leave it be. 🙂
Mica is extremely alert to anything we have out of place, for the neighbors she reports strange cars, people, construction, animals, etc. Our neighbors are a diffirent culture and have no animals. He is always telling me he likes that Mica alerts them to all those things in his yard, says it makes them feel safer.
We don’t really see right into the neighbors yards, but if we hear anything going on in them, Cricket and Luke are sure to sound the alarm. Then everyone has to get in on it! The biggest alarm we get is when the deer are just outside the fence….they often smell them before we even get to see them!
Good Girl, Storm!! Ducky and Shadow are my alarmists, especially Ducky. If there’s a squirrel on the roof, she barks.
