If you follow the blog, you know that I have a go to spot on our deck for product reviews and photos shoots. It works because it is an open area where I can set up any props that I want to use and generally the lighting is decent.
When we are finished, I make sure to tidy up the area. Perhaps I did not tidy up enough, because a couple of weekends ago I saw this rooting around on the deck.
Luck was with me because the only one that saw it was Nestle the cat. After looking unsuccessfully for a snack or two, the woodchuck moved on.
Sorry for the crummy pictures. I grabbed my phone and snapped through the window.
Speaking of rooting around, when we arrived at our cabin last Friday there were turkeys rooting around in our yard. It was a mama and several little ones. They seem to have taken up residence in the neighborhood. I was not fast enough to snap a photo unfortunately. We will have to keep the brown dawgs from chasing them because turkeys have large spurs on their legs that can do a lot of damage to a dog.
If you keep a sharp eye out, you just never know when you might spot something interesting.

Hi Y’all!
Oh those critters are fascinating! We used to have one lived under the feedroom in the barn. Had his den under there.
Y’all come on by,
Hawk aka BrownDog
Wow a woodchuck in the city setting. Did you ask him how much wood he could chuck?
LOL I almost posted that poem. Can you believe it was in our yard? I was surprised to say the least.
How CUTE!
I did not know about the spurs on turkeys’ legs! Even an “old” lady like me can learn something new every day! LOL
seems that woodchucks love the brown dawgs :o) first Hawk had a visitor and now you saw one too… or maybe it was the same guy ? I’m glad we haven’t them here, Easy would be in hunting mood immediately. It’s currently anyway a challenge with all the rabbits everywhere :o)
This little guy must have had a very strong olfactory sense to smell goodies in the air even after they were gone! I enjoy seeing wildlife in the yard – as long as they don’t do any damage! Our lovely deer apparently paid a visit the other night and ate all our Swiss chard. 🙁
Turkeys can damage dogs? That’s good to know. I recently procured turkey eggs for a friend who is hatching them and was considering asking for one of the hatchlings. Hmm.
How cool to see a woodchuck on your deck! I bet there are some tasty treats that occasionally fall through the cracks.
ha ha – I’m LOL because we do the same thing and we do have a family of woodchucks who live in our yard (just ask the dogs about Chucky, Woody, baby Chuckita… lol). I keep thinking I’m going to open the slider and find them lounging on the deck!
I can just imagine the commotion if the dogs had seen that visitor! I didn’t know that about turkeys…good to know. We haven’t seen any around the yard lately but I’ve seen huge flocks of adults and babies on my way to work just about every day I go in. I remember years ago when one of our cats was stalking one…an adult that was bigger than he was. I’m sure glad he thought better of it after a bit!
We hardly see woodchucks; we’re not too exotic here, if I do say so myself.
We have been visited by a few different guests – a possum and a skunk. Both uninvited guests are polite enough to stay out of the dogs area at least.
Holy smokes! It’s a good thing Nestle didn’t let the Dawgs know what was out there, can you imagine the fracas? My dogs would LOSE their SH*T if they saw that. LOL
A woodchuck? haha! He’s cute!
