The weather this fall and winter has been crazy. We had some snow just before Thanksgiving, but mostly we have had rain. Rain and a lot of wind. The temperatures have been unseasonably warm as well.
The crazy weather made for a crazy hunting season. Duck hunting was hit and miss with most hunters having misses because the northern ducks lingered in the north rather than migrate south.
The deer hunting was also hit and miss. Hubby got a deer during the late season with his muzzle loader. Normally there is snow on the ground which makes it easier to find the deer you shot. This year it was too warm for snow and hubby had a bit of trouble finding his deer in the forest.
He got out his secret weapon–Thunder.
We kept Thunder on lead for his safety which is the smart thing to do on public land during hunting season. He started following a scent but we pulled him off so we could search in more of a grid pattern. We found the deer fairly quickly but it would have been quicker if we had let Thunder off lead and followed him. Trust your dog.
That was a couple of weeks before Christmas. Move ahead to Christmas Eve and the weather was down right balmy–warm and windy.
The ground is not frozen yet and is really soft from all the rain this fall/winter. We have been staying away from the park because of the squishy ground and for now no running in our yard because it is becoming a muddy pit.
We decided to take a walk around the neighborhood for some exercise. Hubby walked Thunder and Storm.
Our sidewalks are too narrow to walk abreast so I walked ahead with Freighter. It was a good opportunity to work on the dogs’ obedience.
They are required to walk at heel–no pulling.
Since it was such a nice day, there were other people out walking their dogs. We made sure to allow some space between us and people with dogs since some of the dogs we encountered were barely under control. We cannot control those dogs, but we can control our dogs and it was a great opportunity to reinforce heel with our dogs.
Notice the green grass. Green grass on Christmas Eve in Michigan!
Then yesterday we got an ice storm with freezing rain and wind. Luckily it was not as dangerous as the weather the southern states have been suffering, but still crazy.
It’s crazy here, too! We normally have temps around 40. Currently the thermometer is reading in the 70s. Winter should be headed here soon. Wishing the Brown Dawgs some lovely snow.
It has been really crazy! I actually like it because I don’t like the cold and lots of snow. We got dumped on yesterday we got 9 inches. It will be fun to photo preacher in it.
that’s true… it’s crazy to pass meadows with daffodils in december :o)
The last time we had this much rain was mid October; and the back yard is an absolute mess again. But Shadow and Ducky don’t care. They’ll run in anything but ice. I take that back. Ducky will even (try to) run on ice. Shadow, thankfully, is not as reckless as she used to be. I think seeing Callie go through two TPLO surgeries in 20 months made an impression on her. She slowed her own pace at times to allow Callie to keep up with her. Now that is sisterly love! ❤️
It has been crazy weather! I was walking the boys on Christmas Eve and it was degrees out! Leroy and I went and sat in the woods for a bit and it was just crazy looking around and not being cold or seeing snow. Now all we have is rain. Thankfully we didn’t get the ice storm but maybe some snow later this week!
This weather has been a disaster in our opinion, but for the past week, it has cooled off and snow has started coming in small doses, now we got about 8″ overnight, so we are finally happy around here. Hope you all get some snow soon. The rain and ice is really rotten.
It has even been unseasonably warm here in Louisiana! It turned cold Sunday night after a storm blew through. It feels a bit more like winter now. I had to laugh at the muzzle loader hunting. My brother is the only person I know that still hunts with that. LOL!
It has been totally crazy. Now that we’re finally getting our first snow, I can’t help but wonder if it will last, or if we’ll have another warm spell? I got a little spoiled with all the warmth, and I was really grumbling when I had to bundle up to go out and play with the dogs today…LOL!
We had a very very green, warm Christmas….. in CANADA. I mean…. whaaaaaaa????
BUT………….. my latest weather update will be posted to the blog tomorrow! *squeeeeeee*
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
We’ve had weird weather too – been very cold here in SoCal…hoping it warms back up soon!
We have had that exact crazy weather here too! In fact, on Christmas Eve while I was sweating my butt off in the kitchen, I actually opened doors. I was SO warm.
Then yesterday morning we got that wee bit of snow and it’s super cold now. Ugh!
No snow in Boston or New Hampshire! The train is called the Noreaster because it heads onto Maine, Snowless! People headed out from the city because the weather was terrific! Will there be any snow snakes or angels?
Love the shadow photo with Freighter.
Once on Easy Street, few people keep their dogs on leash, since the Chessies were new to the neighborhood, they stayed in leads! Too many unknowns and temptations.
