In yesterday’s post I mentioned that Storm likes to stall in the yard. Of all three dogs, she is the one who regularly challenges authority. I have to constantly think of new ways to get my point across to her. However many times when I should be irritated with her, I end up laughing at her antics. Silly Storm!
One of her very favorite stalling tactics is to chase her tail. She has done this since she was a puppy and I have discouraged it since she was a puppy. I used to think it was just a puppy thing. She is 8 1/2 so I think it is safe to say that it is not a puppy thing. It is definitely stalling when she wants more time in the yard. I guess she figures if she looks busy, then I will let her stay out longer.
Here are some photos of Storm stalling from this week.
Storm even caught her tail.
When she was finished, Storm looked mighty pleased with herself.
If you want to see her in action, here is a short video from last year I haven’t had a chance to share yet on the blog. Yes, she growls at her tail like it is an intruder.
I used the same method on her that I used on Freighter to get her to go in her kennel. I say it once and if she does not do it then there is a consequence, like no treat before I leave. Storm likes to do what Storm likes to do, so we practice a lot.
This is the Thursday Barks and Bytes Blog Hop hosted by Heart Like A Dog and 2 Brown Dawgs. Grab the badge and the linky code and join us! Its fun!
OMD!! Callie used to pretend she didn’t hear me calling her when she didn’t want to come inside. And I couldn’t get irritated with her any more than you can with Storm. I miss my girl so much; but at least now I can say or think it without dissolving into a giant puddle.
Storm does look cute though when she chases her tail 😉 Interestingly enough, tail chasing is not something my pups do (they’re both 4.5 years old), but Missy will pretend to be very busy inspecting her belly area when she’s stalling…Silly puppies!
Because they figure out really quickly how to manipulate us.
that’s a funny thursday tail tale Storm… I like the way you talk with your tail :o)
It’s so good to know that even well trained hunting dogs like yours don’t always listen. 🙂 That is just too funny that Storm uses that tactic to try to get away with something!
Storm you have the funniest stall tactics! I would just smile at you too who could be mad at that??
Good stall tactic. Catching that tail is pretty critical.
Well that is a great idea Storm, to just chase your tail for more time in the yard. Sounds like you doggies keep trying out the Mom. I will say, that you Brown dogs sure are good looking. I love that picture of Storm.
The half-sister is usually pretty obedient! Unless she has settled in and is asked to move! Or you slip out the gate to retrieve something from the car and it does not click shut, Macha will slide through and is off, up the dead end alley. Always the same pattern. At 11 plus, she really does not want to upset her humans. However, Little Butt, will lead her into temptation. And. Macha is still perfectly capable of quietly attempting to achieve her personal goals! She is Miss awareness of what I might get away with, if I wait! She also gives us the “look” if she thinks Erynn is out of line. That is hilarious!
Koda is the same way. He likes to try and challenge me with certain things, and then he will talk back to me in his husky talk sort of way. It’s hilarious and frustrating at the same time!!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
That’s too funny! Barley is always ready for anything, so if it’s time to go in, she rushes in to see what’s happening next–but I know how easy it is to laugh at them instead of being stern because Barley has plenty of antics in other areas of life.
LOL, Penny had one of her first snow experiences this week and sure did lots of stalling!
I think every dog has their own tactic! Bailie likes to scratch her neck, and Katie always used to lie on her back and kick her feet like a temper tantrum.
“I’m a hunting dog! I’m hunting! I’m hunting! You can’t kennel me now!” Silly girl!
Storm is silly AND smart! That’s a great way to get more time in the yard! 🙂
I would be laughing at her too. She reminds me so much of another brown dog who likes to do things her way as well. I laugh at her too.
Have a great weekend!
That’s funny, they all have their different ways of stalling. Our guys will yawn, stretch and slowly stroll as a delay tactic – except for Sophie who at the age of 13, simply chooses to ignore. But at that age, she knows she can get away with it!
A very Happy and Healthy New Year to all of you too. Looking forward to all your activities. Have a great day.
