Last Saturday it was windy and freezing cold.  We still got out and threw some bumpers for the dogs.  We planned to head up to our cabin afterward so we did NOT want the dogs to go into the pond.  It was just too cold for wet dogs to travel for a couple of hours in the back of the truck.  Well guess who thought it was a nice day for a swim?

If you guessed Freighter or Thunder, you are wrong.  Little Miss “I Do Not Care To Swim In Cold Water” decided that maybe she did not mind it after all.

Here is how it went down.

We we throwing bumpers adjacent to the pond but still a distance away so the dogs would not be tempted to get into it.

Toward The Pond? Really?

Hubby and I stood there sort of in shock.  She isn’t going to get into that freezing cold water is she?  She hates cold water.  In fact she once failed a Master test in the third series because she decided to go around a pond on a cold morning.

But on Saturday, despite the frigid weather, she got into the pond and was going to swim all the way back to hubby with the bumper.

We did not want her in that water too long.  It was way too cold and you have to be concerned about hypothermia.  Hubby eventually walked up on her and called her out of the pond.

The only thing that we could figure was that her training kicked in and she thought since she was near water, she should bring the bumper back through the water.

Silly Storm!

An Announcement About The Hop

This is the last week for the Barks and Bytes Hop.

I have been running a blog hop on this blog every Thursday since March 2013, first with my This ‘N That Thursday hop and then the Thursday Barks and Bytes hop.  It is a time commitment to host a hop, but it is a labor of love.  However, blogging has changed and with that change, participation in hops has waned over the last several months so this is a good time to conclude our hop.

Jodi from Heart Like A Dog and I would like to thank you for participating each week.

  1. Sorry to hear your hop is ending, but we totally understand. I love to swim, even in the cold water, but I’m usually not allowed to either.

  2. Storm, you silly girl. Just doing what you thought you were supposed to do, right?? Hope you got warmed up. You all have a fantastic week end.

  3. Silly Storm. Delilah loves to swim and while we aren’t around water typically during the colder months, I have no doubt she would make a beeline for it herself.

Thanks for being such a great co-host and for putting up with me these past two years. I wish you the best in whatever way your blog and life takes you.

  4. Chessies will be Chessies! And this a confusing time weather-wise! One day 55 and the next ice pellets are hitting the windows. Was thinking whether Macha would venture into the chilly waters, perhaps not. Age 11 plus, she is a bit picky about her choices.

    1. Thunder was the only one who did not get into the pond. Freighter put a couple feet in and got out.

  5. Awwwww, I’ll miss hopping through the Barks and Bytes, but totally understand. And about Miss Storm . . . sometimes we just have to remind you humans that we really are the ones in charge.

  6. That is kind of hilarious! Were you able to get her dried off and warmed up? She looks so, so pleased with herself!

    1. Yes. We ran her again (on land this time) so she could shake off some more of the water and hubby always has towels in the truck. Chessies have an oily coat which repels water. Once they shake they are mostly dry. Still I bet she was a bit cold and damp for the ride but not too bad.

  7. They have a way of surprising us sometimes, don’t they? I guess they’re like people. Sometimes we all do spontaneous things, lol!

  8. That would be Sheba. If she sees water, she must go in it…she doesn’t care how cold it is.
Thank you for hosting the hop(s) all these years! We have enjoyed participating but I guess things are always changing, aren’t they? I only hosted a hop once but I know it can be a lot of work if you want to do it right.

  9. Silly Storm! Barley doesn’t like water whether it’s warm or cold, so I don’t think I’d have too much to worry about with her, but she also likes to keep me on my toes, so I probably shouldn’t say it would never happen!

Thank you for hosting the hop! It’s been a great way to find other blogs! We’ll definitely still be tuning into your adventures!

  10. I’m going to miss the B&B hop! It has been one of my favorites since I started blogging almost exclusively about my girls. I know things change all the time.
The only thing that doesn’t change is change is change itself. But, I’m glad I found so many different blogs over the last few years. I’ve learned a lot from all of you.

As for Storm? Well, what can I say? Girls like to keep us on our toes. Mine always have. Just when you think you have them figured out, they do something to surprise you.

  11. oh phooy, I thought I responded yesterday and I can’t see my post. That Storm is silly but hey when you want to take a dip you want to take a dip. Thank you for all that you have done with the blog hop. I so enjoyed participating each week. Good luck to what comes next.

  12. Hi Y’all!

So sorry to hear the B & B hop has ended. Sometimes real life just gets too demanding and the Humans wear out. Bet the “kids” Thunder, Storm and Freighter are happy y’all will have a little more time for them!

    Y’all come on by,
    Hawk aka BrownDog
