The brown dawgs asked Santa for a new toy for playing in the snow up at the cabin. You might remember that the last time the brown dawgs tried to play in the snow it was a disaster because the snow kept sticking to the toy and I had to constantly bang it against something to clear it off.

Santa looked all around and finally found a toy that he thought would not get caked in snow.Β  Of course then we got rain instead of snow so the dogs didn’t get to try it out right away.Β  After the rain we got bitter cold temperatures which limited our time outside.Β  The toy had to wait.

Finally they got their chance to try it out up at our cabin over the weekend.Β  To our surprise there was almost 10 inches of snow on the ground there.

No one tests a new toy like Miss Storm, (plus she hogs toys but that is beside the point).

She gave it a test drive.

Storm approves of the new toy.Β  It is not too big, has a bit of weight to it for fetching, and the snow doesn’t really stick to it.

Now that she the brown dawgs have a new toy, Storm is hoping for a lot more snow this winter.

  1. Great pics, it looks like the new toy is a hit. Btw, I like your new look for the blog, it also looks like a hit! πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you. I am tweaking a bit here and there, but the basic look is finished!

  2. Well, we can sure tell Miss Storm loved that new toy and it passed all her tests with flying colors. Question is, will any of the other Brown Dawgs get to play with it? Hugs and nose kisses

    1. Sssh. Brown dawgs love snow but the rest of us have to drive in it….lol.

  3. Do you still have the toy, or was it left buried somewhere outside until spring? Most of our toys end up in that situation.

    1. We have it (but it is at the cabin). They brought it inside when they were done. They have pretty good noses and can usually dig their toys out.

  4. I love the expressions on Storm’s face with the new toy, they are priceless.
A definite approval by Storm – but she loves it so much that I’m wondering if the other Brown Dawgs will get a look-in with the new toy!

    1. She hogs all toys. πŸ™‚ Freighter got his own time. Thunder only got it a short time because Storm stole it each time from our big bad Chessie male….lol.

  5. Great series of photos! It looks like you truly have found the perfect toy for playing in the snow- they look as if they are having a blast!

    1. It is. Any hard rubber toy seems to work because the snow doesn’t stick.

    1. The toy made it back inside when we were done. They do fairly good at finding their toys. Heck they can find dead things and deer poop so a toy is a piece of cake. lol

    1. Thank you. I had not though much about the color when I bought it, but you are right.

  6. That toy definitely looks like a hit! We don’t quite have enough snow for burying toys right now. But I’m thinking that’s something Luke would enjoy doing, so as soon as we get enough I’m going to find some toys I can bury for him to dig out.

    1. It is best with the fluffy snow. Storm will try to bury toys even without snow. That is hard on the yard. πŸ˜‰

  7. It looks like she’s really enjoying it. Neither one of my guys are big play in the snow dogs (or play in general) it usually consists of about five minutes or running/bitey face and then they snooze. They would probably not play fetch outside in the snow. :0

    1. Your dogs are older. Thunder really prefers to jump snow piles unless fetch is with a bumper or bird.

  8. LOL – great test run πŸ™‚ My dogs are just jealous about all that white stuff!

    1. Don’t be too jealous. It was so cold that their time out in it was limited. We were lucky that the sun was out so it felt warmer than the 11 degrees plus wind chill that it was that afternoon.
