If you enter enough conformation shows, you are bound to enter under a judge you have shown to in the past.  Such was the case on Saturday when Freighter showed to a judge he last saw in January of 2014.

At that time Freighter was just starting his show career.  His breeder was showing him and he was quite a handful.  I even wrote a post about his antics that weekend: Dog Show Bloopers.

He took a particular liking to this judge, or maybe it was her lotion, because…

Kiss Kiss
Kiss Kiss

Yep. He turned and licked the judge’s face.

One thing about Freighter, he always has fun in the ring.

Since then hubby has really worked with him to improve his manners in the ring.  They attended a lot of conformation classes.  They practiced in the basement and in the yard.  They have been in several shows over the last year and a half.

So what happened this time?  Was there a repeat Kiss Kiss?

Whew no Kiss Kiss this time.  Freighter was very well behaved in the ring.

We were not sure how Freighter would do under this judge because the last time she saw him he placed third in Open Class (his only third place ribbon to date).  But with a little maturity and some manners, I guess he impressed the Judge because she gave him Best Of Winners for 2 points.  Check out yesterday’s post for more show pictures.

Exciting News!

  1. Freighter that was a cool idea to give that judge a kiss … maybe I should try that too ? If I meet a judge again we always laugh when we see them… bet they think: oh nooo… not you again :o) CONGRATS TO THUNDER!!!!!

  2. So excited about the puppy news! If Bailie were a show dog, she would kiss and huggle the judge, so it is a good thing she is not being shown!

  3. Nothing like a kissy face Chessie, sly fellow and gentlemanly manners now!
Ultrasound tale informative but the real joy is everything id fine!

  4. I’m glad he’s finally learned to hold his licker. My friend’s dog wormed her way into the judge’s arms at the Nationals. She took fourth in a huge class. Sometimes it does help to butter up the judge.

  5. So sucking up to the judges is not allowed? 🙂 Congrats on Best of Winners!

We were so happy to hear the news about Thunder and Glory…it’s so exciting!!

  6. So much like Tucker in the ring … he wiggles himself out of his stack almost every time. With time and practice (like you all) we did improve and got our first 2 points at the last show we entered. I love seeing happy dogs in the ring!

And congrats on the upcoming litter from Thunder and Glory!!!!!

  7. That’s awesome that he has better manners now! You can totally see how much your hubby has worked with him!

  8. I remember you telling about his kiss kiss before, she must not of been wearing the right perfume for him this day, congrats on the points! One more to go!!!!! Thank you so much for the shout out on the litter, congrats Thunder you did the deed and hopefully little fur balls in the near future.

  9. Oh, so tempting to kiss the nice lady! What a good boy! Congrats on Best of Winners – and congrats on the coming puppies!!! Can’t wait to follow their journey!

  10. Congratulations on Freighter’s Best of Winners! I know a lot of handlers with experience look to see who the judges are before entering their dogs. A lot of judges have distinct preferences to a specific look, style or color.

  11. Hi Y’all!

Still adoring looks you’re givin’ that judge, Freighter. Lucky boy, 2 points!

    Y’all come on by,
    Hawk aka BrownDog
