Up at the cabin, we have two beds in the living room where Thunder and Storm sleep.  They are the exact same bed, purchased at the exact same time.  The only difference between the two is one is tan and one is a darker beige and one has the striped side up and the other has the striped side down.  The only reason they are a different color is because they did not have two of the same color on the day that I purchased them.

Even though they are identical, Storm has a definite preference.  She likes the darker beige bed and insists on sleeping on that one.

Last weekend after we went to bed for the night, I woke up and heard Storm whining.  I thought there was something wrong with her.  I could not imagine why she was whining.  I got up, flipped the light on, and there she was, standing over Thunder and whining at him because was sleeping on “her” bed.  I guess she figured he would get off but he was snoozing away.

Well I wasn’t snoozing away and it was getting late so I woke Thunder up and ushered him to the other bed.  He is such a nice boy.  He moved over and went right back to sleep.

Storm was happy because she got what she wanted.  She spun slowly around a few times on “her” bed, curled up and went to sleep.

I was wide awake…

  1. Oh yes, we all have “our” spots. Sometimes others “borrow” them, but for serious sleeping we like to be in our favorite spots.

  2. Well, for serious sleeping – as Emma calls it – Ducky likes her crate bed, but Callie and Shadow were never really that particular, as long as they were close to each other. They often got up during the night and moved to a different spot. Shadow still does. Poor you, though, being still awake after Storm settled in! I know the feeling! For the last several years of her life, Callie would wake me up during a t-storm (if I wasn’t already awake) and keep me awake until long after it was over. What I wouldn’t give now to be able to comfort her during a storm.

  3. UGH, I feel for you! Delilah will bark at Sampson if he is in her ‘spot’ (that’s determined by her when she decides to determine it.) It wakes me up too, then I usually have a problem getting back to sleep too. I feel for you. I wonder what the difference in the beds is though? Is it the placement, or has she softened it so it’s just right?

    Dog problems.

  4. Oh, that’s too funny! Cricket has her spot on our bed to sleep….between or behind my husband’s knees. If anyone is in her way (and often Sheba is…I think she does it on purpose), Cricket will just sit there and stare at my husband until he makes Sheba move so she can have her spot! Luckily we mostly get this settled before anyone goes to sleep!

  5. Our dogs have favorite spots on the furniture and it cracks me up. If someone is in Sydney’s spot, she’ll just stand and watch me until I make her brother or sister move.

  6. Pierre and Bentley have “their” beds too. They are exactly the same but they each have staked a claim on their favorite. Thunder is a sweetheart. ♥

  7. Hi Y’all!

I have one more thing to add to my “why it’s best to be an ONLY dog” list! Thanks Storm and Thunder.

    Y’all come on by,
