It is the in between time.  The non-stop activity is slowing down for the 2 brown dawgs.  There is hunting of course, but that is on the weekends.  The days are starting to get too short to train in the evenings.  We hope to meet up again with our training group starting in December.  Until then, the 2 brown dawgs are spending time just hanging out.  Pictures are a bit limited as well.  Hopefully around Thanksgiving there will be cute, fluffy puppies to take pictures of and to share.  (Puppy news here.)  For today, all I  have are a couple of pictures of Thunder and Storm.:)

Of course we love comments and thankfully have a bit more time to answer them.  🙂

We received a lot of questions about our grouse dinner.  Jen at MyBrownNewfies wanted to know what grouse tastes like.  I would say it is kind of like cornish game hen but milder and not as rich.  When you prepare grouse you almost need to add flavor, if that makes sense.

Misty Shores Chesapeakes wanted to know if there was a lot of meat on them.  We usually just breast them because that is where the meat is in these wild birds.  I would say that you get maybe 3-4 ounces of meat from each bird.  Of course you have to watch for bee-bees.  🙂

Finn wanted to know how our dinner was.  Excellent.  I made the birds with my tried and true recipe which can be found here.  I had some meat from a couple of birds in the freezer, so together with the birds from this past weekend, we had quite a feast.

Jessica @ YouDidWhatWithYourWeiner commented that once her Dachshund Gretel zeros in on a bird, she can’t hear a thing.  That describes what happened to Storm.  The more birds she flushed the more excited she became and forgot all about her job.  But with a refresher, she was back on target.

Finally, do not adjust your eyes.  I changed the theme design again because someone around here felt it the other one was too cutsie for hunting dawgs.  Well that is what happens when the boys go off hunting and leave Storm and me alone to design.  😆

  1. Another quick and easy method for cooking Pats that I have found is skinning the entire bird, halving it and putting it on the grill with your favorite BBQ sauce. You remove the wings as there is little meat there, but if you try this I believe (if you like barbecued chicken) it will not be the last time you cook it this way!

  2. Thank you for answering! I have never had grouse and was curious to how it tastes too. Glad dinner was excellent!

  3. I’m excited to see pics of the puppies. Thunder and Storm have worked hard and deserve some ‘down’ time. 🙂

  4. Nothing wrong with some down time 🙂

I love pictures of the duo!!

Oh I am just so excited about the puppies

Looks great in regards to the design, so please feel free to make me a site 🙂

  5. I like your new blog look! I liked the previous one as well, but you chose another good one! Great job.

    Love the pics!

  6. I wondered if it was just the breast, now I know.

Just between us girls the other one was not to cutsie 😉 but this one is very nice also.

Feel free to share any tips on that CSS, still trying to figure it out 🙁

    1. One CSS tip….Figure out the order that the parts are in the style sheet. For example the body usually is before the footer and when you put changes in, make sure to keep them in the same order. (If that makes sense.) If you list the changes out of order, then they won’t show up. (I am assuming you are not making a whole new style sheet.

Also if certain images show and you don’t want them, you have to write “none” in your changes to the style sheet so they will be masked. In this theme for example, there are several images you have to hide.
