The weather was just perfect for a long walk in the forest on Christmas morning.  It was sunny, with light winds and temperatures just at freezing.  There was very little snow so we didn’t have to worry about snowmobiles sharing the access roads with us.  We turned the dogs loose to run and to hunt for birds as we walked on the road.  They worked the brush on one side of the road and then crossed to work the other side.  Usually the grouse sit under pine trees or in brush piles, so that is where they worked.  Finally they flushed a nice big fat grouse from a pile of brush.  It was a perfect flush, right to left just in front of us.  The sun highlighted the beautiful colors of the bird’s feathers.  Once the bird flushed, the dogs were steady, but of course we weren’t hunting and I didn’t have my camera ready, so no picture.  The dogs worked hard for the flush and earned a well deserved nap.

Hurry Up!

Where Are Those Birds?
I Don't Think They Are Over Here
Let's Look Over Here
No Over Here
I Smell A Bird
I'm Going To Look Over Here
In This Brush Pile
That Was A Fun Walk
All Tired Out

  8. With their two collars they almost look like they are wearing orange scarves to keep them warm 🙂 It sounds like your Christmas morning started out quite relaxing. Ours was too but I was a bit jet lagged from flying back to the midwest.
