Continuing on our walk in the snowy forest…

Sometimes a dog just needs to take a trip through the brush, especially if his nose is leading the way.

At this point Freighter was getting pretty far in the thick cover so he was re-called.  He didn’t come right away and since we did not want him to get himself into trouble or lost, he got a little nick on his e-collar.  He is a smart dog.  He came right back.

The forest where we walk has many different areas.  Some areas are open.  Some areas have thick cover.  Some areas have tall trees.  Some areas are full of smaller trees which have regenerated.  Yesterday I posted pictures of the river.  Today’s pictures are of the area with the ravine.  The rest of the week I will show you some other areas.

  1. Oh is that an electric collar? One of our dog walking pals uses them on his spaniels as he hunts with them too. They are so the best behaved dogs and he seldom uses them. Your forest is beautiful. Have a terrific Tuesday.
    Best wishes Molly

    1. Yes it is an electric collar. We use it in our field training. We also use it when hunting and walking off lead. When walking off lead in the forest we use it to reinforce “here”. I would love to get a gps collar. Then we wouldn’t have to worry quite so much if the dogs are in heavy cover.

The older dogs, Thunder and Storm, don’t really need it as much, (well Storm maybe…lol). Freighter is still learning and can get carried away when he gets on a trail or sees something interesting. If he is visible it is OK but in that heavy cover we worry about him getting lost.

  2. Yes, a dog must follow hi/her nose. We can’t help it. But it is always good when we have caring peeps to make sure we don’t get into trouble.

  3. It’s a gorgeous area. Delilah tends to want to follow her nose too, I love it when she is on to something and her head is down. Off she goes!!

  4. What a beautiful area, especially covered in snow. Freighter’s expression in the last photo looks like he’s saying, “Aw gee Ma, can’t I stay out a little longer?” 😉

  5. That forest just looks beautiful! What a great place to be able to take Freighter for some exploring. I love your header and the falling snow!

  6. Freighter you are so lucky to be exploring such a beautiful place and in the snow. We would so love to get a walk there to smell and explore. Looks like a perfect walk:-)
