Today we join Heart Like A Dog and co-host Bringing Up Bella for the Follow-up Friday blog hop.
It’s the the blog hop that:
Lets you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.
Monday Mischief–Back At It
The dogs got out to do some training last Saturday. Thunder came up limping again after running a few marks and I mentioned that we might have to think about retiring him.
Jodi asked:
If you retire Thunder, will he still be able to practice and hunt?
Yes. This year he missed the season and we don’t want him to have to miss another. Hunting is the thing he loves best.
But I may have some good news. When I took Freighter in to have his stitches removed, I had to see the orthopedic vet so I asked about Thunder. He pulled his chart to double-check dates and he feels that it may just be scar tissue breaking up. He suggests we work him a bit and if it continues, bring him in so he can look at it.
We may, or may not run him on one mark this weekend. We will see.
By the way, Freighter’s stitch removal (from dewclaw removal surgery), was unremarkable. We were in and out of the vet except the Thunder discussion took a few minutes. I complimented the vet on what a great job he did with so little shaving. 🙂
I also took some pictures of our training with my old camera. I plan to use it outside if the weather is cold or damp. The weather started turning on Saturday so out came my old Canon. These are pictures of the dogs doing a double.
Practice Makes Perfect
Patty asked what camera I was using for the pictures.
My new camera is a Canon EOS 60D and I was using a Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens.
FleaByte mentioned Freighter’s long legs. He has a lot of filling out to do. He still looks immature to me. He weighs 72 pounds and probably will gain more mass this year. However, he isn’t going to be as big as Thunder.
I love this picture of Freighter and his sister Sunny.
Wordless Wednesday–Portraits 2013
OK I have gone a little portrait crazy. Maybe not just portraits, but I Have enjoyed taking some still pictures of the dogs. Thanks for all of the kind comments on my pictures. I still have a lot of learning to do.
The Pet Blogger Challenge
I enjoyed writing this. Thanks to new commenters who stopped by to say “hi”. I did not get around to visiting as many participants as I would have liked yesterday because my day went crazy. Thankfully, there is always tomorrow.
By the way, if you stop to leave a comment and have a blog, make sure to include a link so I can stop over and visit. 🙂
That is it for this week. We plan to get out and train and I hope the weather will cooperate. Today Freighter is getting a little extra training because his breeder/co-owner has a private lesson with our trainer and she is bringing Freighter along. Thanks to Cindy and Darrin. 🙂 Hope the rain lets up and you have a nice training session.
Have a nice weekend!

Hope you have a great weekend with the dogs! Thanks for an interesting week !
Have you gotten your show schedule yet? Does Freighter have competition? For me, that’s the hardest part of having a less common breed – paying the entrance fees and having no points to shoot for!
Yes and I know his competition. 🙂 We are lucky because there is a Chessie club here and we try to coordinate to make points and majors. This show is usually very well attended, but this year not so much. Freighter will be going against his brother and another dog on Saturday and his brother and two other dogs on Sunday. 1 point Saturday and 2 points on Sunday if all of the dogs show up. Also, Storm is going on Saturday and that is a small entry as well (I point I think). She will be going against Freighter’s sis Sunny and another bitch. There are several Specials entered. Freighter’s mom is trying to finish her GCH. She only needs a few points.
Freighter just needs the experience. As I say, he still looks immature to me. We just hope he behaves and doesn’t jump around the ring. 🙂
In one breed I used to be heavily involved in, it was almost tradition to leash break a puppy in the ring at the national specialty. Always entertaining!
I hope he behaves and shows what he’s made of!
I just love follow up Friday. Have a wonderful weekend with the dogs.
Blessings,
Goose
We’re so glad Thunder will be able to continue hunting, even if it’s on a limited basis. But how wonderful that there’s hope regarding the scar tissue. Fingers crossed! Glad Freighter’s stitch removal went so smoothly. Sounds like a very pleasant start to the weekend! 🙂
Thanks for joining FUF!
Freighter handled that dew claw like a pro!!
I’m glad that Thunder will continue to train and hunt and am keeping my fingers crossed it is just a bit of scar tissue as the ortho suspects. 🙂 Have a great weekend and good luck on reading the challenge blogs, there sure are a lot of them!! I think I’ve only gotten to about 20 so far. I suspect it may take me a long time!!
I would love to get a new camera, ours is about 10 years old! Unfortunately the one I really want is currently a little out of my price range! I think your photos are great! The best way to learn is to keep taking pictures 😉 Have a great weekend!

Best wishes Molly
Great news about Thunder…I know how much these dogs love the work…Bringing back that bumper is what they live for
Hi! Our apologies for not commenting lately. Tomorrow on our blog will be a explanation why…. We are so happy Freighter’s op went well and we are praying Thunder will be okay!
Give those Chessies a hug from their collie fans!
God BLess You!
the collies and chuck 🙂
I’m sure that Freighter will fill out as he matures, he’s still just a long-legged teen ager. Sorry to hear about Thunder, It’s always hard to retire a dog when they still have the passion.
Wow, you really got some fabulous pictures there. Have a great week ahead.
