Today we join Heart Like A Dog and co-host Terrier Torrent for the Follow-up Friday blog hop.
It’s the the blog hop that:
Lets you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.
Monday Mischief–The Destroyer
Freighter had a munch-fest with the rugs near his crate. There is more than one way to stop The Destroyer. We put a board under his crate to make it harder for him to get to anything nearby and we wired the crate so that he cannot move the tray. Hopefully that will do the trick.
Missing Storm
Thunder seems to be taking Storm’s absence more in stride this time. The weather has been decent this week and the days are slightly longer so he and Freighter have been out to train a time or two. Nothing like some bumpers to get your mind off your pal.
I have mentioned in the past that we co-own Storm. The deal is that her breeder has breeding rights to her. This means that her breeder will do the breeding and then Storm will come back here until it is time for puppies, (assuming there are puppies this time). When it is time for her to whelp she will go back to her breeder to have the pups and spend time there until the pups are weened. The puppies will belong to the breeder to keep or sell. We will not be getting a pup.
I hope to find time in the near future to explain more of what co-ownership is all about.
Wordless Wednesday–Running Marks
The training pictures on Wednesday’s post were from the Saturday before last. Last weekend I was fighting a cold and was not too keen on sitting out in a field for the afternoon. It was bitterly cold here and it was snowing so the roads were bad. We all decided to stay home although I heard it was a good, but cold, training session.
This ‘N That Thursday
We got about 4 inches of snow overnight. It is supposed to snow some more today. I am sure the roads will be a mess, but the brown dawgs will enjoy fresh snow in time for the weekend.
No group training this weekend, but it works out because the Michigan Chesapeake Bay Retriever Club is having its annual meeting. We don’t make a lot of meetings so it will be fun to catch up in person with other members.
Finally. last week Jane Parry asked:
I have tried to whistle sit Rudy and Rio without much success. Any tips? Or is it just more and more practise? I bet your dogs are very steady when you send them off? My 2 tend to do everything at 100 mph which makes it hard to get them to listen sometimes!!!
I offered a tip to try a verbal “Sit” if the whistle did not work. There is another place I could have referred Jane, but I forgot about it, (old age). Thank goodness our pal Hawk and his people stopped by to remind me.
I have been reading Hawk’s blog for a long time. If you don’t know Hawk, he is another Chesapeake Bay Retriever and he gets to spend time at the shore and in the mountains. Hawk was forgetting his training and to stop when his people blew the whistle. I suggested going back to reinforce his training. Hawk’s people shared how they worked on his whistle sit. If you are interested in teaching a whistle sit, check out how Hawk worked on it, Part 1 here and Part 2 here.
This is a blog hop! Check out the others participating here:
Have a great weekend!
Great FUF. Have an awesome weekend
You too…they are so short!
I still can’t get over the fact of just how handsome these dogs are! Have a great weekend!
Thanks Gloria!
Great Follow-Up Friday post!! Thanks for joining us.
Wow Freighter, I’m pretty impressed, rugs. You’ve got one up on Delilah although once when we first moved into our present house I caught her gnawing on a baseboard. Thankfully it was only that once! Best stay away from those rugs dude!
Are YOU missing Storm? I know I would be. How long is she gone for? Are all your dogs co-owned? I’m looking forward to that post explaining how it works, I’m not sure it’s something I could do. 🙂
Have a great weekend and stay warm!! Honey, Vitamin C & D for that cold. 🙂
Yes we miss her. I made hubby call to check on her last night. 🙂 She will be gone a bit longer until they get the breeding done. They took her earlier this time to be ready for when she is ready. I think she will be gone through next week, give or take.
The cold is gone. It was more of a cough than a cold, I guess. It was never that bad, but I decided to take it easy last weekend and nip it in the bud. If I get a cough, it can tend to bronchitis. I made sure to get lots of rest.
Thanks for the links re the whistle training but parts 1 and 2 seem to be the same? I will keep practising!!
Double darn….I fixed the link now. 🙂 My wordpress was acting weird and copying things earlier. You can also access the posts toward the top of Hawk’s page. They are posted there permanently. Good luck!
I’m also interested in learning more about the co -ownership of Storm. I hope you stay warm this weekend!
Great Follow Up Friday. Our friend has a abeagle that is co-owned by the breeder. I don’t know how you all do it; we would be missing the dog something awful while it was away from us.
Have a wonderful and relaxing weekend.

Oz
I wasn’t sure if you were getting a pup…but you hadn’t mentioned it, so I figured no. Three’s a lot when you are working with and training them, anyway, isn’t it? It’s not like your dogs are couch potatoes. 🙂
Great round up of the week. Still chuckling over Freighter rug fetish! Have a fabulous Friday.
Best wishes Molly
Is your breeding agreement for a single litter?
Two, but it is going to only be one, (provided it takes this time).
Thanks for joining Follow Up Friday…If you get the snow they’re predicting, the brown dogs are going to have some real snowy fun…Stay safe and warm this weekend
I hope you’ll write more about co-ownership. That’s not something we are familiar with.
Thanks for your prayers…Great FUF post!! Hope the dogs enjoy the snow 🙂
I’m so jealous you have snow to play in. We might get some tonight but around here we don’t believe it until we see it.
Interesting, on the co-owning. I don’t have personal experience, but I’ve read about peoples’ experience with it. Do you know who Storm’s baby-daddy is? Puppies are exciting!
Smart idea for freighters crate. Have a great weekend.
I would be really interested to hear more about the co-ownership. Have a great weekend!!
Freighter looks so shocked that all his fun is gone!
I’ve never co-owned a dog, probably because I have males, but I’m thinking that if I ever owned a bitch, co-ownership would be the way to go for the first one. But even though I don’t co-own the boys our breeder still retains the right to use them in her breeding program if she chooses.
Woof! Woof! Even though I am a senior dog mom continues to do training with me. Whistle is one those technique she did not try when I was young so definitely will check it out. Thanks for the links. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
I know some breeders who co-own, and it works out great for them. I also know some breeders who won’t sell a pup without being a co-owner, and in one case a co-owner legally “stole” a co-owned dog from a family environment to spend his days as a kenneled stud dog.
Oh Freighter,
What’s with them stopping all your fun? I’d be disgruntled too, love the look!! Never mind, I’m sure you can think of something else buddy!
Have fun,
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
