There is nothing better than waterfowl hunting in Thunder’s book.

These are pictures of his hunts the last two weekends.

The first weekend he hunted wood ducks on the river.

Usually Thunder wears his vest when it is cold out.  It was not too cold when he was hunting the river, but he wore his vest to protect his underside from all the brush.

They didn’t see any ducks that morning but on the way out he flushed a woodcock, so at least he got a bird.

This past weekend he hunted at Fish Point which is a state game area.  It is located on Saginaw Bay (Lake Huron) and is part of the Mississippi Flyway.  Click here for a map of where Michigan’s ducks come from courtesy of Ducks Unlimited.

Thunder had a blast.  He was able to hunt with his daughter, Smokey and his granddaughter Sunny.

The first night they didn’t see any ducks, but that’s OK, he was still out doing what he loves.

The next morning, Thunder stayed home and let his daughter go.  The hunters got into the teal and ended up being one short of their limit.  Smokey had all the fun and worked hard fetching ducks.

They got a couple more ducks, including a cripple that Thunder found on the way out.  They didn’t get pictures of those birds.

Sunday morning they went out for a bit and shot at a diver duck.  It was only wounded and Thunder tried to get it, but it kept diving and eventually got away.  Maybe next time.

Thunder was pretty tired out by the time he got home but he wouldn’t trade hunting for anything.

Thanks to Cindy and Gary for the hospitality!

  1. Dressed and Ready to go. Love that corn he brought. That’s amazing … I would be tired too. Lots of Golden woofs, Sugar

  2. Looks like Thunder had a blast! Is the dog stand set up there permanently or is it something portable that you carry round? I’m assuming you need it so Thunder doesn’t need to stand in the water for a long time?

Interesting to see Thunder with his daughter and granddaughter.

  3. Wow that was some pawsome hunting and we have to say Thunder looks very cool in his hunting gear. Have a terrific Tuesday.
    Best wishes Molly

  4. Beautiful pups. Good luck with the rest of the duck season! Can’t wait for it to open here in Md.

  5. I love that he brought the corn, sort of like I’m going to fetch something dammit, whether it be duck or corn!

I bet he was just so happy to be out there. 😀 Great photos! How did the Hubs like the camera?

  6. Someone asked me if a hunting dog can live with a pet bird… I am actually hoping you could answer this… LOL.

  7. With so many gorgeous places to hunt, it’s not wonder it’s Thunder’s favorite activity. 🙂

  8. Congratulations on a successful hunt, it looks like everyone had a good time. Did you have corn with your ducks? haha
