We were up at our cabin vacationing last week.  Our place is next to state forest land and normally we enjoy taking walks in the forest to tire out the dogs.  However, for safety during firearm deer season hunting season we stay out of the forest.

So how to tire out one very energetic 3-year-old?

A game of retrieve of course.

We headed out to the back yard and threw a few bumpers for Freighter.

Lucky for us there was some snow which makes finding the bumper a bit more challenging.

Since the bumpers sort of blend into the snow, Freighter really had to use his nose to dig it out.

After a couple retrieves we moved up a bit.  This changed Freighter’s perspective and the spot where the bumper landed.  He had to push past where he had just found the first few bumpers to find the next one.

Tomorrow we have a pheasant hunt booked for the dogs.  The dogs should get a good workout hunting the field.

  1. I’m so jealous that you had snow! I’ve always loved playing with the dogs out in the snow since I was a little girl. When we had the snow in February of 2013, We had a great time playing out in the yard — until Callie tore her first ACL. Ducky had a blast walking plotzing through it as she was only a year old and had never seen the white stuff before.

  2. Looks like Freighter had a good time tiring himself out. I wish that snow would head over here – we’ve only been teased with a dusting so far.

  3. Beautiful pictures! I LOVE when the snow is still piled up on the trees. It never lasts quite long enough, but the world looks so magical when it’s there!

  4. Mommy laughed when she read “some snow” and then looked at the photos. That’s more than “some” snow in our book, but it’s absolutely beautiful and Freighter looks so handsome with that winter white backdrop.

  5. Hi Y’all!

Now that is what I call snow! My Humans hope they are back in the low country before anything like that is seen around here!

    Y’all come on by now,

  6. Playing in the snow is so much fun and such a great workout for them. I love to watch them searching in the snow for toys!

  7. Wow, you got a lot of snow. Sweet Freighter certainly seemed to be enjoying finding the bumper in all that snow. Amazing pictures as always…I so enjoy them. Hugs and nose kisses for you all from me and mine.
