Storm was off to the vet last week for a dental cleaning.  She will be 8 years old in June and it was time, but more than that, we noticed that she was dropping her bumpers more frequently and she has had some explained drooling.  We looked around in her mouth suspecting that she might have another benign epulis like she did a few years back or maybe a cracked tooth, but we couldn’t see anything.  We felt it was best to let the vet check her mouth out while she was under anesthesia.

Of course whenever anesthesia is involved, the instructions normally include nothing to eat after midnight.  Storm didn’t care for those instructions.  Mr. Squirrel didn’t care for them either, or maybe he was trying to sabotage her procedure by leaving a present on the deck.

Storm saw it at the same time that I did but I snatched it up before she could eat it.

Crisis averted, we headed off to the vet.

We had to wait a bit to be checked in by a vet.  Storm being Storm barked at every single person who came in the door.  Normally I bring treats to shut her up reward her for being quiet.  She could not have any food, so no treats.  I guess this outing demonstrates the fallacy of depending on treats to buy Storm’s silence.

The dental cleaning went well.  There were no growths or cracked teeth.  She did have a lot of gingivitis which probably explains the dropped bumpers and drooling.  She came home with some antibiotics and bright white choppers.

  1. I hope the antibiotics are helping to resolve Storm’s gingivitis!! Have a great week – what’s left of it!

  2. None of us have ever had our teeth cleaned. We hope to keep it that way. Glad hers are all polished and maybe now she can get back to the bumper business without problems.

  3. You look so happy in the photo at the vet’s storm! I sure don’t look like that when I’m waiting for the vet. So far my vet says I have very clean white teeth, but I’m only five, so we’ll see if that continues…

  4. Glad things went well. I suspect Delilah has another cracked tooth, which is being checked out tonight. 🙁 Where is the world did that squirrel find a peanut like that? Someone must be feeding him.

I hate the procedures where I must bring the dog to the vet with no treats. That happened yesterday too, I had to skip Sampson’s walk and take him straight to the vet.

  5. they will call you Snow White now Storm, that looks as white as a snow-storm now :o)
my momma did that too, but she got no anesthesia, she had to sit there for 90 minutes with a wide open mouth like a funfair ball clown :o)

  6. I really should take Wyatt in this year for a cleaning, just hate putting them under but he is 5 and it’s probably better to get it over with now. Maybe now that his bile barfing is under better control they will stay cleaner after. Glad everything went smoothly and there were no major problems.

    1. Gosh I am sorry to hear that Wyatt is having stomach issues. We had some blood work done on Storm before so we were sure she was healthy. I really do not worry too much about the anesthesia as long as the blood work is good.

  7. Hi Y’all!

Oh gee golly! My Human is always tryin’ to brush my chompers and use a mouth rinse on me. She then has to put all her clothes that she was wearing in the laundry and shower AND wash her hair!!! BOL! I make sure of it!

    Y’all come on by,

  8. Wow sweet Storm you do have some beautiful, bright, white choppers. Hope the gingivitis clears up very soon. Hugs and nose kisses

  9. Tut is going in for a cleaning and possible extraction next week… gotta get those teeth pearly white!

  10. Nice teeth! So glad it went well and no major issues were found. We’ve always been lucky that way with our dogs…cleanings needed but never any major issues or extractions or anything.

  11. Wow – amazing results. We would be too scared to put our dog under for cleaning. So we try to brush Kobi’s teeth regularly.

  12. Hooray! That sounds like a good report to us. Glad Storm did not have any cracked teeth, cavities or growths. Nice white choppers, indeed! 🙂

  13. Hooray to white teeth!! Storm looks quite happy to be at the vet. Treats are important to me since Donna starts shrinking into a corner and shivering away when she sees the vet. – – I brought a pupcake in the last time and she did better at least. Haha!
