Last weekend we took Storm and Freighter out for a run in the forest.  There are miles of what we call “gas line roads” that run through the forest.  These roads are access roads which allow the gas company access to their natural gas pipelines.  The roads are on state land but the gas company maintains the roads, including plowing them in the winter.

We use these roads to access many of the areas where we take the dogs to hunt.  We rarely see anyone else on these roads.  It is a great place to let the dogs run and burn off some energy.

Because They Always Return When They Are Recalled (And They Are Wearing Their E-Collars Just In Case)

Normally I am way behind because I stop periodically to take pictures.  Freighter and Storm are checking to see if I am catching up.

  1. that’s a super place for a run, I love it when I have a part of this world just for me and the pup :o) and I like that you have roads through the forest, that’s just great :o) I thought I found such a place too (an abandoned airport from wwII) but while I jumped with joy for the silence and the roads there I’ve noticed a lot of snakes who live around the old water basins uuuuh :o(

  2. Hi Y’all!

My Human says all the Chessies she’s been around, including my “over the rainbow” sis and, yes, even me, run free like that…turning back to check on the Humans. Y’all are so slow!

Those are wonderful clear roads! They look easy on the legs and feet!

    Y’all come on by,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  3. Penny would have a blast running out there! She got to experience her first corn maze recently, which we’ll post about next week!

  4. There’s nothing finer than the sight of a dog in motion. Thank you. 🙂

  5. Sheer joy on those faces! Bur sensibility in waiting for the camera lady to come along as well!

  6. That’s so cute how they come back to check on you! I can see the happiness of freedom in their faces as they run, they’re really enjoying themselves. Wonderful photos.

  7. We would love to run like that, but we might not return for hours…recall off leash for us isn’t always the best if something better comes along.

  8. How great that you have those roads that you can let them run on! It’s a treasure to find places like that that you can have all to yourselves. Sheba is our only dog ever allowed off leash but it’s tough to find places that we can really feel comfortable letting her go.
