Thunder’s daughter Smokey was supposed to be headed to the Chessie Specialty Show last month, but instead she headed in the opposite direction.  When Thunder heard the news, he came a running…

What Did You Say?

Seems if all goes as planned, in a few weeks, he is going to be a Grandpa.  He wanted details, so here they are:

Thunder’s breeder, Shiloh Ridge Retrievers (SRR) has bred Thunder’s daughter Smokey

CH SRR’S KICKIN’ ASH JH RA WD

(CH HR SRR’s North Point Thunder Bay SH WDX CGC x CH SRR’s Saginaw Bay Driftwood JH)

CH Cur-San’s Ruff Cut MH

(CH Anubis Treasured Bettis MH x CH Cur-San’s Sport’n the Hope)

Cutter

Cutter is a Champion and a Master Hunter and as I understand it, has a very nice temperament.  His pedigree is impressive with dogs earning hunt test titles, show titles, obedience titles and some field placements.  Cutter’s father (CH Anubis Treasured Bettis MH) ran the Master National last week and earned a qualifying score.  Very cool and congrats to him!  (For those that don’t know the Master National is like the Superbowl of Hunt Tests.  You have to qualify by passing six Master Hunter Tests at Clubs belonging to the MNRC during a year-long period.  Dogs come from all over to run the test which is made up of five very tough series.  They run multiple marks and blinds and blinds between marks…crazy stuff.  It takes a lot of dedication and a good dog to qualify to attend and even more to go and pass it.)

Did I say that Cutter is a handsome doggie?  Judge for yourself…

While Smokey was at Cutter’s house, he did a little training.  (Maybe showing off a little for his girlfriend?  ;))

Thunder’s daughter Smokey is a smart doggie, easy to train, with a sweet temperament.  She has her Championship, her Rally Advanced Title, her Junior Hunter Title, and her Working Dog Certification.  She has a strong pedigree with many generations of Champions and some nice hunt test titles too.  Smokey’s Mom is a very sweet dog and has her Championship and her Junior Hunter Title.  Her great-grandfather (Joshua) was Best in Show, Best in Specialty Show,  and had multiple group placements.  He has produced multiple Champions and dogs earning various performance titles including three Champion/Master Hunters.  (I think there are approximately 95 Chessies that have earned the dual titles of Champion/Master Hunter.)

Oh and she is really cute.

Smokey Is A Happy Dawg

This should be a very nice litter!  Puppies are (hopefully) due on Thanksgiving.  Of course this means Smokey will miss hunting season (the things girls have to miss out on!).  Thunder is very excited and can’t wait to meet the new pups.  (We can’t wait either!)

A picture of the happy couple.  🙂

  1. Oh that is just amazing the bloodlines that those puppies are going to have. I love bloodhounds…always wanted one and got one but damn they are so darn hard to train… All they can do is drag you behind them on a leash catching a scent…. There is no obedience when it comes to them. As I always tell you I have such dog envy!

Hopefully I can keep Fred seizure free and we can go apply for the county SAR team and re try our pet therapy test but he has to be seizure for for a specific period before the can apply back with that.

Congrats to grandpa Thunder!!! Thanks for sharing the lineage and showing the pics!

    1. Oh I hope it works out for Fred. I just love bloodhounds too. I always marvel at how they can work. I bet Fred would be an amazing SAR and therapy dog.

      1. He failed his therapy test twice….he decided to not listen to my commands…sit and stay…he got up and walked away smelling the carpet. I couldnt help but laugh. He passed all other areas with flying colors.

The SAR ive had to wait on because he was so immature and hyper that when he tested when he was younger for the county he would get on the scent and loose it because he would get distracted..sigh… now that he is finally matured I am keeping my fingers crossed. It takes so much time to train them, I dont know how yall do it.

    1. As important as the titles (or more so), are the health clearances. Especially hips. It isn’t a guarantee, but still very important to have (in our opinion).

  2. Hi Y’all!

Oh Thunder, congratulations…can’t believe you’re going to be a grandfather! Wow!

As to Kari’s comment…working retrievers require lots of work…but we’ve been bred for our entire existence as a breed to live with and work with our human.

My Human has a friend who trains pointers tell her she was so lucky ’cause Chessies are easy to train. We need to work with you and have to be part of your life. We need more exercise though than most people have the time or inclination to give us.

Lookin’ forward to seeing your grand-pups, Thunder!

    Y’all come back now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  3. You’ve got some beautiful dogs. Hope to see some puppy pictures before too long.

  4. Smokey is gorgeous! Wow! He has a nice list of titles too!

Congrats to Thunder on being a Grandpa!

(I have about a week until I find out if Sherman is going to be Dad:)
