Storm hasn’t had much time of the blog this week so I put together this slide show.  We were training Tuesday evening at one of the few local ponds that still has some decent water this summer.  Needless to say, that pond is very popular.  Storm got some extra distractions while swimming back with a mark.

Update on Thunder’s leg injury… It has been two weeks since he has been on the medication regime that the orthopedic vet prescribed for him.  He is taking a very low dose steroid daily as an anti-inflammatory and another medication that is a pain reliever/anti-inflammatory on days that he is not training/testing.  The combination seems to working because we have not seen the limp even after heavy training/testing.  We spoke to the vet last night and he was happy to hear how well Thunder is doing so we will probably keep him on this regime through Labor day and then re-access.

We plan to do some training and to visit Freighter this weekend.  Since we were busy testing last weekend, we did not visit him.  It has been two weeks since we last saw him.  Of course he will probably be preoccupied.

Have a nice weekend!

  1. Glad to hear that Thunder’s leg is doing better. I liked Storm’s slide show – Mia learned to swim by chasing ducks through the water like that.

  2. Happy to hear that Thunder’s leg is responding well. It must be hard to be without little Freighter. Lulu would like to be swimming with Storm to get those duckies.

  3. Those distractions didn’t phase Storm in the least! We’re glad to hear Thunder is doing well. I’m sure Freighter will be happy to see you even with his preoccupations! 🙂

  10. bah! technology. 🙁

    second time typing this out. hope i don’t forget anything from the earlier draft.

    great updates! love the slideshow. sorry i have been MIA for awhile. just catching up on our crazy life here. one of our two brown dogs will be leaving soon. his family, whom we’ve been dog-sitting for the past 2 yrs, finally bought a house. waiting to hear if their HOA will allow Justin to be there or not. so either they’ll be installing a kennel for him or we’ll be finding him a new home. you were right. two boy brown dogs has proven more than we can handle anymore, plus it’s not fair to the boys. we just want what’s best for him. so, please keep Justin in your prayers. thanks!

    ::hugs::

  11. It would be really hard for me not to see Chester and Gretel for two weeks. I am not sure how you do it. Don’t you miss Freighter?

  12. It is good news indeed that Thunder is recovering!

    I love the pictures of Storm, I am assuming those are real ducks?

  13. I would be interested to know what drug combination was actually used with Thunder. Glad to hear he is recovering well and responding to the treatment. Great photos! 🙂

    1. Hi there! Thunder is about 98 pounds. He gets 5 mg of Prednisone as an anti-inflammatory once a day and 50 mg tramadol twice a day. On the days he is training or testing, we do not give tramadol until after he is done working for the day. We could go as high as 75 mg of tramadol, (the vet wanted us to be able to control the dosage), but he is doing fine on 50 so we are sticking to that. We will probably keep him on this for about another month and re-access.

  14. Enjoyed Storms slideshow and all the extra visitors to the pond. Really glad to hear that Thunder’s leg is responding well to meds and doing better. Hope your visit with Freighter goes really well 🙂
